Adapting and Adjusting!

Introduction:

Being in an unfamiliar place can be nerve-racking. However, with time and a little effort, I believe people can adapt to their environment and the people around them. And before you know it, you won't be missing all the things from home!

What makes this environment special or different?:

I strongly believe that people make the place. Here in Florence, I have been greeted with nothing but warm smiles and greetings. Everyone here is so nice and welcoming. Also, my study abroad program has provided me with a great support system. Everyone who works in the office has been through this program before and has experienced everything I am going through. They offer great advice and are also a great resource for questions I might have on this trip.

What parts of this environment help people to live here?:

I think the welcoming spirit of the Italian people helps everyone better adapt to the culture. Family is a big part of the Italian culture and because of that, many people here are quick to greet you as if you are family. Even though I am American, I have had many warm welcomes and I don't feel out of place here.

What challenges do people face living in this environment?:

Comparing Italy to my hometown in California, the lifestyle here is very different.
