How Do People Get Around Mongolia?

Introduction:

Unlike in New York City, where there are many subway lines, buses, and even ferries across the water, in Mongolia almost everyone drives a car. Of course, there are buses in the city as well, and people get from one city to another using a bus or train. But overall, I have never seen so much traffic in my life!

How do people get around?:

In the city of Ulaanbaatar, where I live, almost everyone drives a car. In fact, traffic here is worse than anywhere I have ever seen! A drive in the city that should take ten minutes can sometimes take almost an hour, and cars are packed together on the streets. Added the heaviness of traffic in Ulaanbaatar, people can be crazy drivers; or, at least, many drivers here do things that we definitely do not do in the USA. Even though I am from the city of Philadelphia, where people can be crazy drivers, they are nothing like Mongolia!

In Ulaanbaatar there are also city buses that go to many places. These buses get very crowded during rush hour before and after work, so you have to pay very close attention to where you are in the city or you might miss your stop! However, the easiest thing to do is to take a taxi. But unlike in New York, where you can hail a yellow taxi or call an Uber or Lyft, in Mongolia, everyone is a taxi!
