One of my favorite parts of being in Taiwan is getting to talk to my students and learn about how they live their lives. I also learn a lot about kids in Taiwan from my friends who teach in other schools in our area. Kids here are generally really friendly and are usually very interested to talk to a foreigner just like kids in the U.S. would be interested to talk to someone from a different country. In order to give an idea of what life is like for some of the kids I see everyday at school, I asked several different students from different schools some questions about everyday life in Taiwan. These are some of the answers from David, second grader; Mark, a fifth grader; Felix, a fourth grader; Sean, a fifth grader; and Hannah, Francis and Nana, three sixth graders!
David said that for breakfast he usually has an egg sandwich or a pancake with milk. For school lunch he always has rice with some vegetables and a meat dish (this is the same lunch I eat!). On Wednesdays he has noodles instead of rice. For dinner, his mom makes rice or noodles with beef or pork.
