Our News

What main languages are spoken here?:

In Strasbourg, France, just about everyone speaks French. Since it's so close to the German border, many people also speak German. They also speak their own language called "Alsatian," which is a combination of French and German. In Germany, everyone speaks German. However, each region of Germany speaks its own dialect as well. Instead of different accents for parts of the U.S. (like how people from the South speak one way and people in New England speak another way), German dialects use slightly different words for the same meaning. However, since I don't speak German or French, I'm very glad that most people speak English!

What type of money is used here?:

In France and Germany, they use the Euro. The exchange rate, or the amount difference to change from one currency to another, is about $1.10 U.S. dollar to 1 Euro. In other words, every Euro is worth about a dollar and ten cents.

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

Bottles of water are pretty similar in cost to the United States, and they offer many sizes. Half a liter or less can be as little as 0.5 or 0.6 Euros. Larger bottles of fancy spring water can be as much as 2.2 Euros! However, we haven't had to buy any water (even though we drink a lot of it) because we bring our water bottles with us.
