When I found out I had to write about communities, specifically a community need, I went to talk to some of the other teachers at my school. As a foreigner it is really easy for me to point out areas in Košice life that seem like community problems because I am not from here. That doesn't mean it's a real problem here, nor does it mean that I am qualified to write on it just from my own viewpoint. When I asked the teachers what they think a community need is in Košice, they immediately said Lunik IX. They also told me to not go there because I am white, a foreigner, and do not speak the language. Lunik IX is an extremely impoverished Roma community on the outskirts of Košice. It is a complex problem with many political sides and viewpoints, and, while there are similarities to US problems with minority groups, there is nothing that I can accurately relate it to in the United States.
The community I needed to learn about was the Roma population specifically living in Lunik IX. The Romani group has been displaced in many European countries for centuries.
